A Bruxa é uma revista online vinculada ao Laboratório de Entomologia Urbana e Cultural da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), dedicada à publicação de estudos na interface entre Biologia e Cultura. Seu escopo abrange áreas como Zoologia Cultural, Botânica Cultural, Ecologia Cultural e Paleontologia Cultural, contemplando pesquisas sobre a presença e o significado de elementos biológicos em manifestações culturais, folclore, artes, religiosidade e práticas econômicas.
A revista visa preencher uma lacuna acadêmica ao oferecer um veículo especializado para investigações que exploram as relações históricas e contemporâneas entre seres humanos e outras espécies, com potencial aplicação no ensino escolar, na divulgação científica e em estratégias de preservação ambiental fundamentadas no princípio de que só se preserva aquilo que se conhece.
O nome "A Bruxa" faz referência à mariposa Ascalapha odorata (Lepidoptera: Erebidae), popularmente conhecida como "bruxa", espécie que carrega intensa carga simbólica e cultural. A escolha do título também evoca a figura das bruxas enquanto guardiãs de saberes tradicionais, frequentemente perseguidas mas associadas à preservação do conhecimento, tema central da proposta editorial.
A publicação está alinhada às linhas de pesquisa do Laboratório de Entomologia Urbana e Cultural da UNIRIO e busca consolidar-se como referência para estudos que investigam as múltiplas formas de interação entre a diversidade biológica e as expressões culturais humanas.

A Bruxa (The Witch) is an online journal linked to the Laboratory of Urban and Cultural Entomology at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), dedicated to publishing studies at the interface between Biology and Culture. Its scope encompasses areas such as Cultural Zoology, Cultural Botany, Cultural Ecology, and Cultural Paleontology, including research on the presence and significance of biological elements in cultural manifestations, folklore, arts, religiosity, and economic practices.
The journal aims to fill an academic gap by offering a specialized vehicle for investigations that explore the historical and contemporary relationships between humans and other species, with potential application in school education, scientific dissemination, and environmental preservation strategies based on the principle that one can only preserve what one knows.
The name "A Bruxa" refers to the moth *Ascalapha odorata* (Lepidoptera: Erebidae), popularly known as "witch," a species that carries intense symbolic and cultural significance. The choice of title also evokes the figure of witches as guardians of traditional knowledge, often persecuted but associated with the preservation of knowledge, a central theme of the editorial proposal.
The publication is aligned with the research lines of the Urban and Cultural Entomology Laboratory at UNIRIO and seeks to establish itself as a reference for studies that investigate the multiple forms of interaction between biological diversity and human cultural expressions.
