GINGA - Art and Technology Workshops: CyberFunk

On August 10, 2024, the event "Unveiling Mixing - Meeting #2" offered a practical introduction to the craft of a Disk Jockey (DJ), focusing on the basic fundamentals of mixing. Especially aimed at people without prior experience with professional equipment, the activity invited participants to explore for the first time the tools and techniques involved in the art of mixing music. Lasting two hours and with limited spaces for 10 people, the meeting was aimed at young people and adults from 14 years old and up.

The workshop was led by Escola de Mistérios, a music collective and creative agency from Rio de Janeiro dedicated to the training and professional inclusion of Black people in the electronic music scene. Composed of music producers, DJs, cultural producers, and visual artists, the group works from the historical recovery of Afro-diasporic and gender-dissident contributions to sound culture in the Americas, while denouncing the racial and gender inequalities still present in the field.

During the activity, Escola de Mistérios shared its collaborative approach, which investigates the socio-political intersections of music and values Afro-descendant and indigenous rhythms and expressions. By combining ancestral and technological tools, the collective promotes the exchange of knowledge and works in favor of accessibility, diversity, and historical reparation, with the aim of transforming the unequal distribution of opportunities in electronic music.
