In 2024, SEMEIA, the Environment Week of the Museum of Tomorrow, had the theme "Trails of Forest Citizenship".

In a forest, all elements are connected, above and below the earth, in the waters and in the air. The living beings that are part of that ecosystem are always, in some way, relating to each other and to their habitat-community. Some cultures of humanity have distanced themselves from this wholeness, but, in practice, we are part of the cycle and inhabitants of this common home of ours, planet Earth.

Even in cities, there has been and can be the experience of forest citizenship; there has been and can be an affective relationship with the manifestations and possibilities of life, of nature, of the ecosystem from an integral perspective. "A worldview and a differentiated position towards existence, which places the idea of communion in the place of the idea of dispute and competition," said Ailton Krenak.

Between June 5th and 9th, 2024, in conjunction with World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, SEMEIA presented an extensive and diverse program, occupying all the spaces of the Museum of Tomorrow.

Reflections on environmental and planetary issues were proposed with inventiveness, considering different ways of imagining more sustainable worlds and sowing desirable futures. Over 5 days, the public was invited to participate in dialogue sessions, workshops, film screenings, artistic and educational activities aimed at all ages. The weekend concluded with a fair of sustainable products and a children's festival developed by the Museum of Tomorrow's Education team. That year's program benefited from essential partnerships with the Amazon Environmental Research Institute - IPAM and the National Museum.

Each year, SEMEIA reaffirmed the Museum of Tomorrow as an open, articulating, creative, and stimulating space for the exchange and deepening of ideas and solutions in the fields of sustainability, coexistence, and innovation.

June 5th to 7th | Tuesday to Friday

Throughout the week, SEMEIA's program included guided tours conducted by the Museum of Tomorrow's Education team in the museum's exhibitions and outdoor area; illustration, body, and imagination of the future workshops in the Observatory, the Curiosity Courtyard, and the Tomorrow's Activities Laboratory; film screenings curated by Ecofalante and in partnership with IPAM in the Observatory; and dialogue sessions, with reflective and propositional conversations between guests and the public in the Observatory and the Atrium. On World Environment Day, June 5th, the program also included a musical performance by the artist Juão Nÿn, expanding reflections on forest citizenship, ancestry, and ecology through art.

June 8-9 | Children's Festival

Over the weekend, the SEMEIA children's festival took place, aimed at families and promoting the active participation of children and young people in discussions about the environment and the future. The week ended with playful and fun activities and a fair of sustainable products.
