The Elisa Frota Pessoa Award, organized by the Museum of Tomorrow in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro, honors the pioneering work of this important scientist, an experimental physicist, who had a significant impact on the field of science and technology in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
In its second edition, the competition consists of selecting and awarding prizes of up to R$15,000.00 to 24 scientific articles written by female undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in the fields of Applied Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Exact Sciences, and Humanities, on the theme "Science and Technology in Promoting Gender Equality," in order to value scientific production by women, promote the recognition and dissemination of works of academic excellence, and inspire young female researchers to enter academia, contributing to a more just and equitable society.
